About Vintage Focus CDs

What is on a Vintage Focus CD?
For 2003-2005 we created self starting (on Windows) CDs that allowed to view the photographs in menu environment with each photo having a label. This was done using HTML pages we created and put on the CD along with the jpeg photographs. We called these photojournals. This was too labor intensive once we increased our volume of picture taking. So if you buy our CDs from the early years they will likely be in this format. There will be a starting HTML page (index.html) and many other HTML pages that link together plus folders of jpeg photo files.

Starting in 2006 we began suppling CDs with just the jpeg photo files on it. They are ordered as they were taken. There is is usually a thousand or more photos on a CD and they are either grouped by a specific event they came from or across events and choosen as particular makes or styles of motorcycles. They are in the natural order. You just load the CD and click on the first photo and your computer has software that will allow you to move through the photographs.

Is there a program (software) on the CD?
For the 2003-2005 CDs there is no software on the CD except for shellexe.exe curtesy of www.whirlywiryweb.com which allows the CD to self start on Windows machines using autorun.inf. Otherwise it is just a collection of HTML files and JPEG photographs in a lot of directories. The software is your web browser already installed on your computer. To access the photojournal you use your web browser which reads and navigates the HTML pages. So the CD does nothing to your computer and is completely safe. You can even copy the CD to your harddrive if you want to get a little faster response and not have to tie up your CD drive when viewing the photos.

For the 2006 and later CDs there is only a big collection of jpeg photos on the CD. Your computer already has software that will allow you to view the photographs.

Do I need to go online to view a CD?
No, the whole point of the CD is that you have everything your need right there on the CD you put in your computer. This means you can see photos almost instantly as you view the CD. You can be online at the same time but it would only be needed if you wanted to send a email to Vintage Focus or wanted to visit our web site.

On what type of computer can I view a CD?
It should work on any system with a CD drive and an web browser like Internet Explorer, Netscape, Mozilla, Opera. So any Windows PC, Mac, Linux and others should work. If it does not work properly on your system we would like to know and will refund your money if you return the CD with an explanation. It is not designed to work on DVD players.

How do I begin viewing a CD?
For the 2003-2005 CDs you insert the CD into your computer. On Windows machines it should self start. If it does not self start you need to access the index.html file on the CD drive. An easy way to do this in windows is to double click on my computer and then the CD drive icon. Then look for the file called "index" and double click it. This should start up your web browser to access the photojoournal. You can also start up your browser and click on "file" and "open" and "browse" and select your CD drive and then click the file called "index" and the "open" box. Using this or other methods once you access the index.html file you will be able to navigate the CD pages and photos.

For the 2006 and later CDs you insert the CD into your computer. You may be shown a list files on the CD or you many have to navigate to see the list of files on the CD. Either way you just click (or double click) the first photo and software on your computer will display it for you. You should also have options to move forward and back and go into a slideshow mode if you wish.

How do I do a search?
There is no search option. The photos are in the sequence they were taken.

How to I print a photograph?
When viewing a photo your software should have a print option available. There may be a print icon or maybe you have to use the right (or left) mouse button.

How do I find the actual photo JPEG file?
The viewing program should show the name of the photo you are viewing.

What can I do with the photos on the CD?
The photos on the CD are copyrighted by Vintage Focus. Basically we consider them journalistic/artistic works. But this does not restrict personal use. We also like to encourage club and event uses which promote motorcycling. See the About Vintage focus section for more details and just ask if you have a special need to use them.
