Brimfield is a small town in south central Massachuesetts that happened to have 2 separate vintage motorcycle happenings going on Friday August 18th when I visited. First the BSAOC International Rallye was in full swing running from Aug 12-19. And second the J&J Promotions was having an auction viewing (the auction was the next day). Many bikes in the auction came from an old British bike shop so there were plenty of BSAs, Triumphs, and Nortons to be auctioned. Moreover these 2 events were in sight of each other on opposite sides of Route 20 that runs through town.

But this is not a completely happy story. The BSA Owners Club has an international meet in a different country each year. So this year was very special for USA BSA riders. The meet is for the benefit of the BSAOC members and not oriented towards promoting BSAs with with public. The BSAOC Rallye Committee required registering for the entire week in order to get onto the grounds. Although the $100 fee was a very reasonable amount for a week I could only be in Brimfield for that one Friday afternoon so did not want to pay the fee for a few hours visit. No day passes were allowed so I was not allowed on the grounds (for insurance reasons) to photograph all the nice BSAs. Still many of the BSAOC attendees came by the auction preview while I was there so I got to photograph a small portion of the BSAOC BSAs.

The vintage motorcycle auction by J&J Promotions was no problem to photograph. I left work around 11:30am Friday on my 1988 BMW K75 and rode the 140 miles to Brimfield arriving at the auction grounds around 2:30. There were a lot of auction bikes to photograph and more arrived during my visit. There were quite a few bikes needing considerable fixing up. Projects that had been on hold for 20 or 30 years. I also got to photograph many of the BSAs ridden over to check out the auction and other makes too. Later I walked over to the BSAOC entrance and photographed a few of the bikes coming and going. Around 6pm after photographing the last of the auction bikes I loaded up my gear and headed for home.
