The BMW Motorcycle Owners Association is a very active organization that supports its members and promotes the joy of motorcycle riding. In 2006 the Vermont chapter (BMWMOV) hosted the 34th annual international meet. They held it in the Champlain Valley Exposition faciltiy in Essex Junction Vermont just outside Brulington. This is a huge facility that easily accomodated the huge gathering (over 3000 bikes) that came from all over the country and world. Many BMW riders like to camp at these gatherings and there was plenty of room to camp. The event ran from Thursday July 20 until Sunday July 23 with a huge number of workshops and events to enjoy. My favorite was the beer tent where local Long Trail ale was on tap for $2 a glass and terrific live music happened every evening. If you can attend one of the events I highly recommend if just for the music.

I rode over after work Thursday afternoon on my 1961 R60 loaded up with camping gear. It was a pleasant 2 hour ride for me by way of back roads. After setting up camp I began photographing all the wonderful sights. Early Friday morning I photographed many camps and walked around the grounds all day long taking over 2300 photographs before I ran out of energy. I had to head for home Friday evening so missed some of the best parts. I heard that next year it will be in the midwest region. Anyone lucky enough to be near by should mark their calendar. These guys take putting on a good show very seriously. The local chapter is on the hot seat trying to match or better the pervious year but everyone else can kick back an enjoy.
