The Motogiro d'Italia is a road run for small motor cycles in Italy started in 1914 and continued until 1957. It was restarted in Italy in 2001. In 2004 the USCRA started Motogiro USA loosely based on the Italian one and restricted to 1967 and earlier and 250cc and smaller motorcycles with a few exceptions. See the USCRA website for more details. A low average speed is set between check points so it is not a speed race. At the start and midpoint and end of each days run a short course of traffic cones is set up and each rider tries to trasverse the course in set number of seconds. The 2008 fall Motogiro USA was held at the Mt Snow Ski Resort in West Dover VT. As usual it was held over a 3 day period (Sep 19-21). Most participants arrive Friday afternoon and things start early Saturday morning with a midpoint for lunch and then an afternoon ride back to Mt Snow. Then Sunday things wind down after the morning ride and the award ceremony.

The ride from Cornish NH to Mt Snow in West Dover VT was about 70 miles so I got up very early Saturday morning and made the ride on my 1960 NSU Supermax. It was about 40F at my place but I passed a lot of frosty low spots on my journey and was feeling the chill by the time I arrived at Mt Snow. After photographing the bikes as they headed out for their morning run I rode on over to the Mt Equinox Skyline Drive entrance where everyone was meeting for lunch. This was about 35 miles by the most direct route but I went a more round about way (got lost). After a wait at the bottom for everyone to arrive we all rode up the scenic drive to the summit where the riders took a lunch break. Then back down and to the bottom and another timed course in the Mt Equinox parking lot and then back to Mt Snow on the afternoon route. But I headed home from Mt Equinox and missed the Saturday afternoon and Sunday happenings. I was able to take about 1200 photographs. For most of the motorcycles present I was able to get a full 16 view set of photos showing lots of detail. A CD of all photos in 1280x960 jpg format is available for $10 including shipping anywhere in the world (CD 08_13). But a better deal is another CD (08_15) which covers the 3 road runs I photograpned in 2008 and has 3300 photos. It covers the spring Motogiro East (May), the Pewter Run (Aug), and this fall Motorgiro USA (Sep).
